How to make New Orleans style BBQ Shrimp with Multo™ by CookingPal®?

New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimps

1. Make the sauce.

Add the butter and spices to begin making the sauce. This sauce is classified as New Orleans-style due to its buttery consistency and combination of seasonings. Southern food is known for its spices, brought out in this recipe by the cayenne pepper.

A fun fact about this type of BBQ shrimp is that it’s not even grilled on a barbecue. The dish gets its name from the sauce which, once fully cooked, will resemble a traditional BBQ sauce.

Barbecue Sauce

2. Sauté the shrimp.

Add the shrimp to the bowl and sauté for 10 minutes.

This recipe calls for deveined shrimp with their shells. Using shrimp with the shell still on will retain most of their natural juices and flavor, resulting in a more flavorful sauce. Medium to large-sized shrimp would be the best size, as shrimp tend to shrink during the cooking process. If you cannot find these types of shrimp, any type of fully-cooked or frozen shrimp would work. Prawns can also be used as a substitute; although they may differ slightly in size and taste (prawns tend to be larger and meatier), they are often used interchangeably in cooking.

Deveining and removing the shells of shrimp can be done in a few simple steps. The head can be easily removed with a knife or a pair of scissors. To remove the shell, begin by taking off the shrimp’s legs and then peeling back the shell until it’s fully removed. At this point, you can devein the shrimp by running a knife along the back of the shrimp to loosen the vein and then gently pull it out.

The head and shells can be saved in a plastic bag to make a delicious fish stock. Add these pieces to boiling water along with the other ingredients such as salt, onions, celery, carrots, and simmer until the flavors have fully meshed together.

3. Cook shrimps with broth and beer.

Add the sauce and beer to the shrimp and cook together for about 5 minutes.

Beer is a great addition to this recipe as it will enhance the color of the sauce and will produce tender, flavorful shrimp. Beer is often used in other recipes with various meats for the same reasons, to strengthen their natural taste and maintain their juices.

Beer can also be used in other recipes. Use it in salad dressings, in soups, and even to make homemade pizza dough!
